UT Medical Branch Austin Research Campus Master Plan
Austin, TX
As principal master planner, PGAL created a comprehensive and phased strategy for a 2.3 million-square-foot research and academic campus within the 700-acre Robert Mueller Municipal Airport redevelopment in Austin, Texas.

The plan addressed short- and long-term programmatic needs, funding strategies, architectural guidelines, and regulatory requirements for the 25-acre site. Designed to unfold in three distinct phases, the plan begins with foundational infrastructure, including three academic buildings, a library, student center, mixed-use retail, two clinical and research buildings, and two parking garages.
The second phase expands the campus with allied health and administrative facilities, another academic building, additional mixed-use retail, two more clinical and research facilities, and two additional garages.
The final phase completes the vision with the construction of additional research buildings, academic classroom space, and a final parking structure. This phased approach ensures the campus can adapt to the university’s evolving academic and research needs while aligning with the long-term goals of the Robert Mueller redevelopment initiative.
