City of Arlington Fire Station No. 1
Arlington, TX
This 17,600-square-foot, five-bay, two-story fire station consolidates administrative and operations offices for the Fire Station and Fire Prevention Department on the first floor, with a fully equipped firehouse located above.

Designed to enhance live/work conditions for firefighters, the facility includes larger apparatus bays, indoor/outdoor kennels for the department’s K9 unit, 12 sleeping quarters, and a commercial-grade kitchen and dining area. The layout supports operational efficiency while providing spaces that reflect the physical demands of the job.
Community-facing elements include a museum and multipurpose space for events, meetings, and public education. Residents can explore the Arlington Fire Department’s history, view archived memorabilia, and engage with exhibits including an antique fire truck.
Located on a narrow site bordered by active train tracks, the design mitigates vibration and sound while maintaining continuous operation of the adjacent fire prevention building throughout construction. Occupied spaces are positioned away from the tracks to reduce disruption, while clerestory windows and open layouts bring natural light into the building. A modern palette of colors and materials ties the station into the surrounding Downtown Arlington context.
