Yellow Parking Garage at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

The garage features a stacked speed ramp system along the south facade, separating entry and exit traffic for safer and more efficient circulation. This placement also maximizes usability by maintaining fully flat parking levels, enhancing customer comfort and visibility. Each level is equipped with a space-by-space detection system that uses dynamic LED signage and color-coded lights to indicate availability, simplifying the parking process in real time.

A new pedestrian bridge connects Level 3 of the Yellow Garage to Level 3 of the adjacent Blue Garage, creating a seamless path to the terminal. Pedestrians arriving from surface parking can still access the existing Pedestrian Spine, while a designated access point on the east facade allows entry to elevators, stairs, and the terminal walkway.

Architecturally, the design incorporates four distinct facade strategies: Identity, Order, Vehicular Movement, and Pedestrian Connection. Each expression serves a functional and aesthetic role. The Order facade introduces five aviation-inspired vertical portals at egress stairs to bring scale and rhythm. The Identity facade features a sculptural metal ribbon element, referencing the aerodynamic forms of nearby airport architecture. Exposed concrete at the Vehicular Movement facade highlights the ramp assembly, while the Pedestrian Connection draws focus to the circulation core through clear visibility of stairs, elevators, and pathways.

Together, these elements create a structured, intuitive, and visually impactful gateway for travelers arriving and departing from AUS.
