United Airlines Baggage Control Center + Early Bag Storage at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
Houston, TX
The Baggage Control Center (BCC) anchors United Airlines’ modernized baggage operations in Terminals C and E. Supporting up to 26,000 bags per day during peak periods, the center plays a vital role in a system-wide upgrade designed to streamline operations and significantly increase capacity.

Designed as a 24/7 operations hub, the BCC features a video glass-wall, and six monitoring stations equipped with UPS backup power and real-time access to camera feeds and system controls. This setup enables United staff to swiftly detect and resolve issues across the baggage network. PGAL collaborated closely with United to integrate Layer 0 technology standards and ergonomic workstation layouts tailored for around-the-clock use.
The updated baggage system consolidates two legacy loops into a single four-loop configuration spanning both terminals. Interlaced for redundancy, the design ensures continuous flow even during equipment outages. Enhanced with additional cameras and robotic routing arms, the system quickly scans bag tags and redirects luggage as needed. The integrated Early Bag Storage (EBS) facility accommodates bags arriving more than two hours before departure and supports dynamic rerouting when passengers change flights.
