Town of Highland Beach – Fire Station #6 Conceptual Design + Renovation/Addition
Highland Beach, FL
To support its transition to an independent fire rescue service, the Town of Highland Beach replaced its outdated 1970s-era facility with a new 9,500-square-foot, two-bay fire station.

Located along Ocean Boulevard beside Town Hall, the building integrates seamlessly into the civic core and surrounding neighborhood.
Working with town leadership, the design process evaluated multiple site options, considering solar exposure, wind, views, landscaping, and traffic flow. The selected site supports both public access and operational efficiency.
The hardened, two-story structure is engineered to withstand 186-mile-per-hour winds and accommodate 24-hour operations. The first floor includes a public lobby and health screening area, while the second floor provides private bunk rooms, administrative offices, a kitchen, dining room, and dayroom filled with natural light. A training room overlooking the town complex doubles as an emergency operations center.
Additional features include a contamination-control vestibule, two back-in apparatus bays with high-volume ceiling fans, and an outdoor patio for special events. A two-bay addition to the original station was also designed to house a backup rescue unit and ladder truck, enabling coordinated response and shared resources between departments.
