A revolutionary model for veterinary care, The PARC (short for “People First. Animals at the Heart of It. Revolutionary Care Throughout.”) reflects a shared vision between PGAL and Dr. Steve Hotchkiss to reimagine how veterinary environments serve people and their pets. Designed with transparency, comfort, and compassion at its core, the 23,000-square-foot facility sets a new benchmark for veterinary healthcare.

The exterior responds to both its urban and freeway context. Bold architectural elements and vibrant graphics draw attention from passing vehicles, while a warm, human-scaled entry invites visitors inside. Corten steel planters, native stone, and a playful elevated dog porch deliver a balance of energy and familiarity—embodying The PARC’s mission to put people and animals first.

From the outset, PGAL’s design approach emphasized openness and ease. Floor-to-ceiling acoustical glass defines the hospital’s cathedral-height atrium and key public zones, offering clear sightlines into treatment areas while minimizing noise. This architectural transparency builds trust, allowing pet owners to observe the hospital’s daily rhythm without disrupting care.

Animals are supported by purpose-built spaces tailored to their recovery and well-being. Dedicated wards for dogs and cats reduce stress through separation, while a fenced dog run and open-air recovery balconies offer fresh air and natural light. Indoor exam rooms are supplemented by outdoor exam spaces for pets more comfortable outside. The facility also includes advanced medical areas—surgical suites, imaging rooms, and a dedicated physical therapy center—to support full-spectrum treatment.

Staff and visitors benefit from thoughtful, human-centered design. Veterinarian workstations accommodate up to 16 doctors, complemented by a private suite for leadership and administrative teams. A doctor’s lounge, kitchen, locker areas, and shaded outdoor break space foster wellness and connection. A 50-person multipurpose training room supports both internal education and community-facing events.
