The basin provides 1,000 acre-feet of detention and required the excavation of more than 2 million cubic yards of soil. As a wet-bottom basin, the design includes vegetative shelves, forbay zones, and islands that support habitat restoration and improve water quality. A 54-foot hill was constructed using 500,000 cubic yards of excavated material, offering trails, native landscaping, and open space for community recreation between storm events.

Scope of work included project management, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, detailed design, public outreach materials, and full bid and construction phase services. The project was guided by a drainage master planning effort completed under the Sims Bayou Regional Plan Update Study, which identified bayou widening and detention basin enhancements using updated HEC-1 modeling tools.
