Space Center Houston Science Deck
Houston, TX
Located on the mezzanine overlooking Space Center Houston’s main plaza, the Science Deck was previously underutilized and difficult for visitors to see. PGAL transformed the space into a more visible, engaging, and interactive destination centered on the experience of astronaut training.

Working with Space Center Houston, The DoSeum, and Root Lab, PGAL designed the approximately 2,300-square-foot space to engage visitors of all ages in simulated astronaut testing. Interactive experiences allow visitors to test and track their cognitive abilities, while a classroom supports staff-led activities and a larger discovery area encourages self-guided exploration.
The renovation, completed with Lever Construction, included removal of the existing exhibit space and integration of new millwork, graphics, lighting, and finishes. Custom graphics, videos, and interactive technology guide visitors through a series of tests, including a vibration table, tilt table, and spin chair. Additional elements include an artifact display in the node, bubble tubes, a ProtoBox, and educational videos that create more opportunities for hands-on discovery.
The redesigned Science Deck gives new purpose and visibility to the previously underutilized mezzanine while creating an immersive environment for learning and exploration.
