Palihotel San Diego

Located in the heart of San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, this 122-room boutique hotel occupies an 11-story Victorian building originally constructed in 1913. The historic Hotel St. James was renovated into a modern hospitality destination aligned with Palisociety’s distinctive brand.
Serving as Architect-of-Record, PGAL collaborated with Paligroup’s design team to blend preserved historic elements with updated, nautical-inspired interiors. Original features such as the two-story neon rooftop sign, stained-glass windows, tin ceilings, marble staircases, and chandeliers were carefully restored and featured throughout the hotel.
The renovated property includes a new street-level restaurant and a rooftop amenity deck offering panoramic views of downtown and San Diego Bay. This outdoor space enhances the guest experience with daily hosted gatherings and comfortable lounge seating.
