Harris County Toll Road Authority Beltway 8 Tanner Ramps

At 90 percent complete, the project was placed on indefinite hold but remains a key example of PGAL’s problem-solving approach to transportation infrastructure.

The project focused on reducing congestion and improving traffic flow by removing the existing northbound entrance and exit ramps just south of Tanner Road. In their place, PGAL designed reversed-direction, tolled ramp facilities to streamline travel patterns. The scope also included the removal of the W. Little York ramps and widening of the mainlanes north and south of the Sam Central Mainlane Plaza—strategic changes aimed at mitigating weaving conflicts and enhancing driver safety.

PGAL’s comprehensive design services encompassed roadway geometry, retaining walls, storm sewer systems, toll plaza structures with roofs, and relocation of utilities. Additional efforts included sanitary sewer and water line modifications, construction phasing and traffic control plans, signing and pavement markings, and stormwater quality and pollution prevention measures.

Through close coordination with HCTRA and project stakeholders, PGAL delivered a forward-thinking design tailored to the corridor’s evolving transportation needs.
