Harris County 1910 Courthouse

The six-story domed building houses the First and Fourteenth Courts of Appeals and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a State Antiquities Landmark.

Restoration efforts led by Harris County and the Texas Historical Commission required precise coordination and strict compliance with preservation standards. The project timeline was carefully aligned to the courthouse’s 100-year anniversary.

Decades of modifications were reversed to return the courthouse to its original design. The central rotunda was reopened to its full height. Granite steps were reconstructed at the east and west entrances. The original cupola, removed in the 1930s, was reinstated to reestablish the building’s historic silhouette.

Two, two-story courtrooms were meticulously restored, including mezzanine galleries, historically accurate millwork, and handcrafted replicas of the original judges’ benches and public seating.

Modern courtroom technology was seamlessly integrated to support current operational needs without disrupting the building’s historic character.
