Gellhorn Drive Roadway Reconstruction + Storm Sewer Improvements

Located between IH610 and Wallisville Road, this project addressed the existing flooding conditions and truck traffic of a growing industrialized area by enhancing stormwater management and roadway improvements along Gelhorn Drive, between  IH 610 and Wallisville Road.

Working closely with the county, PGAL developed schematic alternatives and environmental documentation ultimately settling on a shorter stretch of improvements in the PS&E phase to avoid a lengthy EIS process, and bring faster relief to the area. These improvements mitigated the major flooding issues at the outfall by redesigning the bridge class culvert and outfall channel and reduced roadway ponding by redesigning the storm sewer system and adding significant capacity.

PGAL also improved heavy truck traffic movements throughout the project by designing intersections, median cuts and driveways for the large truck design vehicles chosen on a case-by-case basis to accommodate the abutting industries.
