PGAL led the master planning and design for this two-phase, 100,000-square-foot public facility that now serves as Allen’s premier civic landmark.

Phase one delivered approximately 53,500 square feet, anchored by the elliptical Patron Services Hall. As the centerpiece of the library’s layout, the hall includes first-floor checkout and second-floor reference services. Positioned along key street frontages, the hall enhances visibility and urban presence. Inside, the design incorporates retail-inspired elements such as bookstore-style shelving, oversized signage, and open sightlines to create an intuitive and inviting user experience.

The 290-seat Civic Auditorium features professional-grade acoustics, advanced lighting and projection, and clear sightlines to support both municipal events and live performances. A shared lobby connects the auditorium and library to a series of age-specific reading areas, public meeting rooms, and a café, encouraging flexible use throughout the day.

At the center of the complex, an outdoor courtyard offers a quiet and welcoming public space. Framed by strong architectural forms on three sides, the courtyard includes shaded seating areas and thoughtful landscaping that extend the experience beyond the building and into the community.
