City of Houston Hermann Drive
As part of a regional flood relief initiative for the Texas Medical Center, PGAL provided comprehensive design and engineering services for the reconstruction of 3,300 linear feet along Hermann Drive, including the historic Mecom Fountain traffic circle and major drainage and utility infrastructure.
A central component of the project involved the installation of a 20-foot-deep, 12-foot by 10-foot box sewer beneath the existing roadway and adjacent to significant structures. The design and construction process required careful coordination to minimize impacts to the surrounding environment, including the reconstruction of the Mecom Fountain traffic circle and considerations for the nearby METRO Light Rail crossing. Additionally, the preservation of mature tree canopies along the corridor influenced both the alignment and construction methodology of the sewer installation.
PGAL’s integrated approach ensured that the upgraded infrastructure met the area’s drainage needs while maintaining the aesthetic and functional integrity of this prominent urban corridor.
Features Include:
- Reconstruction of 3,300 linear feet along Hermann Drive and the historic Mecom Fountain traffic circle
- Reconstruction of major drainage facilities and utilities
- 20-foot-deep, 12-foot by 10-foot box sewer beneath the existing street
