Florida Atlantic University MacArthur Campus and Honors College

Built on 135 acres of land donated by the MacArthur Foundation, Florida Atlantic University’s Jupiter Campus was the first public honors institution to be built from the ground up in the United States.

Part of the development of Abacoa, the Jupiter campus established a location for Florida Atlantic University’s Honors College, while serving as a commuter facility for students in the northern Palm Beach region.

Designed to become an integral part of the Abacoa community, the campus captures elements of classicism while looking forward to the excitement of education in the future. Columns and grand arches echo historic campus buildings and wide, brick-paved pedestrian boulevards are reminiscent of promenades around the world. Classical elements are counterpointed by modern amenities such as internet accessibility and the contemporary metal ceiling panels used throughout the building interiors.

The exterior color palette consists of warm tones of beige, dark red, and copper panel accents at the entryways. The building interiors continue the use of earth tones, adding accents of bright blue, green, and turquoise that call to mind the bright Florida sky and nearby ocean.

Prior to this project, PGAL constructed eight buildings on FAU’s MacArthur campus, including three classroom and faculty office buildings, a library building that includes a small bookstore and student union, a dining facility, a maintenance building, and two residence halls.

Features Include:

  1. 135 acre development
  2. Classical architectural elements balanced with modern educational amenities
