Passenger Concourse Enhancements at Long Beach Airport (LGB)
PGAL is leading the design on the Passenger Concourse Enhancements at Long Beach Airport (LGB), supporting the City’s investment in passenger experience, operational efficiency, and long-term performance.

The project builds on the original vision by completing deferred upgrades and introducing enhancements that respond to current passenger volumes and evolving operational needs. At the time of design, the concourses completed more than a decade earlier showed signs of wear and were no longer keeping pace with increased flight activity and gate usage.
A key element of the project includes a seamless indoor-outdoor extension of the concourse holdroom areas. This approach expands seating capacity and improves circulation while reinforcing the airport’s open-air character. Upgrades to flooring, seating areas, and restrooms modernize high-traffic spaces and improve overall comfort. Indoor and outdoor garden seating areas create additional space for passengers, while a relocated Service Animal Relief Area improves accessibility for all travelers.
Wayfinding and technology upgrades enhance clarity and navigation throughout the concourse. New and updated flight information display systems, along with improved static and digital signage, support a more intuitive passenger experience. Dedicated back-of-house SIDA access for concessions and airport personnel improves operational flow and efficiency.
Infrastructure upgrades strengthen the performance of the facility. Integration of the concourse into the airport’s backup generator system, along with full generator replacement, supports continued operations during power disruptions. HVAC upgrades include replacement of air handling units serving both concourses, while technology and security enhancements extend across interior and adjacent exterior areas, including CCTV upgrades.
Additional enhancements include energy-efficient LED lighting across the concourse and outdoor garden areas, a new stage for airport events, canopy gutters along exterior circulation paths, and upgraded landscaping that strengthens the character of the outdoor spaces.
Together, these updates revitalize the existing concourses while increasing capacity and flexibility to support current operations and future growth at Long Beach Airport.
