City of Richardson Senior Center
Richardson, TX
The Richardson Senior Center underwent a 21,000-square-foot renovation to better serve a growing community of residents aged 50 and older. Originally built in 1965 as a bank and converted into a senior center in 1993, the facility required significant upgrades to meet modern expectations for accessibility, comfort, and flexibility.

The renovation introduced a sub-dividable multipurpose room for events up to 300 guests and five activity rooms with movable walls to support dynamic programming. Additional features include a fitness center, billiards room, and an expanded dining area with increased glazing for natural light.
Accessibility improvements include a leveled parking lot, zero-transition flooring, high-contrast signage, and high-density seating. A new outdoor courtyard and biophilic finishes strengthen the connection to nature, creating a vibrant, inclusive hub that supports wellness and community engagement.
A new porte-cochere with wood soffit and a glass vestibule creates a clear, accessible entrance. Inside, a custom reception desk, acoustic baffles, and glass artwork inspired by Richardson’s Spring Creek Nature Area establish a welcoming first impression.
