City of Dallas Fire Station No. 41
Dallas, TX
Originally built in the 1950s and placed into service in 1958, Dallas Fire Station No. 41 was destroyed by an EF-3 tornado in 2019.

The replacement project was required by insurance to be constructed “like for like,” despite the absence of documentation for the original facility. To meet this challenge, the design team laser scanned Dallas Fire Station No. 45, a virtually identical building from the same era, to create a precise building information model.
Modern updates were integrated to meet City ordinances and ADA standards. Improvements include expanded public and personnel parking, increased setback from Royal Lane, and extended apparatus bays to accommodate larger vehicles.
The floor plan closely follows the original layout, with the watch room adjacent to the apparatus bay and direct connections to the dayroom, kitchen, and dining areas, preserving functional efficiency. Architectural elements pay tribute to the Mid-Century Modern era through stacked vertical brick, continuous clerestory windows, exposed wood beams, an acoustical roof deck, and a compact plan organized around an internal courtyard.
