The building was carefully sited to preserve heritage trees and follow the natural topography, allowing the architecture to sit lightly on the land.

The material palette draws from regional context, combining locally sourced limestone, brick, and exposed wood decking with warm metal panels that highlight key program areas. Champagne-toned aluminum sunscreens shade nearly 40 percent of the façade’s high-performance glazing, allowing filtered daylight while enhancing energy efficiency.

Floor-to-ceiling glass and outdoor terraces create strong visual and physical connections to the landscape. Signature features include cantilevered decks along the adjacent hike-and-bike trail and a fully glazed quiet reading room that extends into the branches of a mature pecan tree.

Inside, the facility supports a modern library program with flexible public spaces, expanded collections, and current technology. Nine enclosed meeting and study rooms support collaboration, while a large multi-purpose room accommodates events and after-hours use.

Wood salvaged from the site was repurposed for custom furnishings and natural-edge flooring, reinforcing a strong sense of place.
