Gladys Harrington Public Library
Plano, TX
Opened in 1969, the 34,000-square-foot facility underwent a multi-phase renovation and expansion to better support the city’s evolving population.

The updated library features adaptable, program-focused spaces that promote learning, creativity, and connection across generations.
The new layout includes a naturally lit program room with seating for 200, a vibrant children’s zone with reading nooks, a play area, computers, and a flexible program space, along with a dedicated teen room designed for comfort and discovery. In the children’s area, existing columns were transformed into sculptural trees with wood elements and color-shifting LED lights to create an immersive atmosphere.
Additional upgrades include two public conference rooms, new study rooms with built-in power, and flexible furnishings that support wellness and spatial versatility. A glass-enclosed digital creation studio, available to patrons age 13 and older, is equipped with high-performance computers, audio and video editing tools, and design software.
