City of Boca Raton Downtown Library

PGAL designed the building in close collaboration with city leadership, library staff, Friends of the Library, and local stakeholders to create a welcoming, user-centered environment rooted in local architectural tradition.

The Mediterranean-inspired exterior features arched colonnades and draws from the influence of Addison Mizner, reflecting the character of downtown Boca Raton. Site elements include a landscaped outdoor plaza, 171 parking spaces with designated areas for fuel-efficient and carpool vehicles, and a drive-through book drop with a covered canopy.

Inside, a central diagonal “spine” organizes the layout, framed by eight overhead arches that create a vaulted, cathedral-like experience. Forty-eight clerestory windows placed 25 feet above the floor bring natural light deep into the interior. Clear circulation and intuitive zoning support wayfinding, comfort, and accessibility for all users.
