PGAL Designs Major Facility Expansion to Help the Montgomery County Food Bank Deliver 1 Million Additional Meals Annually

The Montgomery County Food Bank (MCFB) continues to make an extraordinary impact in its community, providing nutritious food to more than 85,000 people each month through a network of over 90 partner agencies. As food insecurity has risen by more than 25% in recent years, the organization has responded with a major 18,000-square-foot expansion designed to meet the growing demand for food assistance. This transformative project will enable MCFB to deliver an additional 1 million meals per year to neighbors in need.

In 2024 alone, dedicated volunteers contributed more than 47,000 hours of service. With this incredible support in mind, PGAL’s design focused on optimizing volunteer efficiency by expanding workspace and sorting areas, including the new Produce Rescue Center (PRC) and enhanced cold-storage facilities to accommodate greater volumes of fresh and frozen foods. The design team also elevates the overall operations experience through the creation of the Huntsman Welcome Center, Woodforest Bank Volunteer Center, Kroger Kitchen, and the Tricia & Jack Futcher Conference Room.

“This expansion represents far more than bricks and mortar,” said Kristine Marlow, President and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank. “It’s about people, purpose, and partnership. It’s about what happens when a community comes together with compassion and determination to fight hunger.”

The MCFB celebrated the completion of its expansion with a grand opening ceremony held in the new Woodforest Bank Volunteer Center. Guests toured the new facility and enjoyed refreshments and hors d’oeuvres generously donated by Black Walnut Café, as community leaders, partners, and supporters gathered to mark this milestone moment.

During the ceremony, Jim Carman, President of the Houston Region for Howard Hughes and Chairman of the Montgomery County Food Bank’s Board of Directors, recognized key benefactors whose generosity made the project possible. Honorees included the Huntsman Corporation, Brynn and Peter Huntsman, Woodforest National Bank and the Woodforest Charitable Foundation, Howard Hughes, ExxonMobil, The Woodlands Methodist Church, Kroger, Nelda Luce Blair, Maris Blair and David Hall, Kelley and Jim Wolf, Jennifer and Scott Burns, Kristine and Garth Marlow, E.E. Reed Construction, and PGAL.

Guided by the campaign’s inspiring message, “Build Today, Feed Tomorrow,” PGAL and the Montgomery County Food Bank are proud to have created a facility that embodies compassion, dignity, and sustainability.
