Castillo Community Center Wins Good Brick Award

Preservation Houston has named the Leonel J. Castillo Community Center a winner in its 2015 Good Brick Awards competition. The annual program, now in its 37th year, recognizes local contributions to the preservation, restoration and enhancement of Houston's architectural and cultural heritage. PGAL designed the conversion of a historic but badly damaged elementary school into a vibrant community center.

The 12,500 SF project retained and restored all salvageable historic elements of the original Robert E. Lee Elementary School, built in 1919, and created space to house health, education and social programs for inner-city seniors, veterans and children. The project will be celebrated at the Cornerstone Dinner in February.
