Denton County New Government Center

Denton County Breaks Ground on New Government Center

On Friday, October 24, local dignitaries from Denton County and the cities in and around County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell's Precinct 3, gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new PGAL-designed Government Center.

The 40,700 SF facility consolidates currently scattered departmental spaces into a single building for: Tax Assessor/Collector; County Clerk; Justice of the Peace; County Constable; Adult Probation; Department of Public Safety; and County Commissioner.

The style and scale of the Government Center is timeless and classic, befitting of the local vernacular, utilizing local brick, cast stone, and a metal roof. The main façade is highlighted by a two-story entrance that opens directly into an airy, daylit main vestibule.  Flanking the main entrance are covered colonnades providing shade and direct entry to the Community Room and the Adult Probation department.

Great care was taken in the planning of the facility to ensure quality, cost effective, and sustainable construction not only short term but as a long term investment; the Center is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification upon completion.  Sustainable practices implemented include water efficient landscaping, overall water use reduction, energy modeling to optimize energy performance, enhanced commissioning, construction waste management, recycled and regional materials, and several innovative design credits.
