Bravo Lovett Elementary! Houston School Wins "Great School" Rating

PGAL-designed Lovett Elementary School (pre-K through 5) has earned a rare 9 of 10 rating from Greatschools.org. The $12 Million, LEED Registered, 750-student, 84,500 sf replacement school, which opened last fall, is a Magnet School for the Arts with an exceptional band program. Standout features include a band classroom with an operable exterior glass wall opening to the front yard for outdoor performances under a covered court. A moveable wall separates band classroom and stage adaptable as an event facility for the community.

This 84,500 sf replacement campus has been designed to provide students and staff a contemporary educational facility that is easy to navigate. The healthy indoor environment features strong natural daylighting for better learning and eco-friendly materials for durability and ease of maintenance, superior technology to keep up with changing demands, and a safe and secure campus both inside and out.

Housing 750 students, the LEED Registered school has a 2-story classroom wing with pre-K through 2nd grade on the first floor and 3rd through 5th grade on the second floor. As a Magnet School for the Arts, the school has an exceptional music department and an award winning band program. One of the school's standout features is the band classroom with an operable exterior glass wall that opens completely to the front yard for outdoor performances and assemblies under the covered court. The band can use its classroom space and the stage for large group rehearsals or performances by opening the moveable partition wall that separates the two spaces. The dining space opens to the performance space as well, allowing the room to double as an auditorium. This feature extends the capabilities of the room beyond students and teachers to become an event facility for the community.

The school's predominant feature is a flood of natural light. The library receives natural light through the use of clerestory glazing. All classrooms and learning spaces benefit from natural light and views to the outdoors. The health of students and teachers is enhanced via connection between the indoor and the outdoor. The school is open, efficient, innovative, inviting and functional. The result is a high performing yet welcoming school.
