Sky Harbor International Airport Consolidated Rental Car Facility
Phoenix, Arizona
Completion Date: 2005
Construction Cost: $185 M
PGAL serves as the Design Manager and RAC Liaison, as a part of the Abacus Program Management team, and has led the initial programming and planning efforts, the interface between the Aviation Department and the A / E Team, the creation of design standards, and the coordination and collaboration with the RAC Industry for the new consolidated rental car facility at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The 135- acre development has been planned for phased construction and will include a 200,000 SF Customer Service and Administration Terminal, a 2-level Parking Garage with 6,000 covered spaces, surface parking for 11,000 vehicles, and car wash/fueling/maintenance facilities. The program also outlines accommodations for a common busing system and a future people-mover system, concessions for passengers and an estimated 2,300 rent-a-car employees as well as remote check-in for airlines including ticketing and baggage drop-off.
Major challenges for this ConRAC include the ability to integrate this massive facility into the nearby Sky Harbor Center with a "corporate campus" design, the coordination of the programmatic needs for the sixteen RACs that will occupy the facility, and providing the groundwork for the common busing system and people mover.
