Harris County selected PGAL to provide architectural services for the new Harris County Civil Courts Building. The new 650,000 SF Civil Courts Building consolidates civil court functions, improving efficiency and promoting accessibility. The new, 17-story facility houses all 39 existing civil courts and their supporting agencies, and includes four future courtrooms and shell space for another eight. Key issues include prominence of exterior design, flexibility of plan, circulation and zoning, security, provisions for current and future court technology, space needs, functional adjacency, and the needs of persons with disabilities.
